The spring 2016 semester is under way. This semester is going to be busy for the Cyber Security Club, as we are preparing to compete in the Western Regional Collegiate Cyber Defence Competition (WRCCDC), and we are also planning a Cyber Security Conference for everyone on campus.
We are working on setting the hours of operation for the Cyber Security Center and we will notify everyone as soon as we can.
The Cyber Security Club now has a social media page on Toro Link. Toro Link is a website that hosts all of the clubs on campus, and allows clubs and students to easily connect with each other. As we move forward, we will be transitioning over to Toro Link. This will make it easier for us to manage members, as well as members to manage their communications with the club. You will need to log into Toro Link using your campus email account, as you would MyCSUDH, but you can change your email preferences in the settings. Make sure to join us on Toro Link, as communications with migrate from this email list to Toro Link.
Cyber Security Center Remodel
We have remodeled the Cyber Security Center a bit and it is looking very nice. We are not fully done with the remodel, as we are awaiting a few more items to arrive. We wanted everything to be done before the semester started, but it happens. In it’s current state, we have most of the computers connected to the internet and Wi-Fi available. We are not set up for any hacking at this time. Come by and check out the lab.
Cyber King of the Hill Competition
Because the lab isn’t fully complete, we can not host our competition yet. Once we get the network complete, we will start preparing for this competition and notify you with the date and time.
HACU NIP – http://www.hacu.net/hacu/HNIP.asp
If you weren’t chosen for or were ineligible for STEM Advantage, you can apply for The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) National Internship Program (NIP). HACU is currently seeking students interested in applying for a summer 2016 internship in the corporate sector and possibly certain non-profit organizations. Some of the companies include Lockheed Martin, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, National Science Foundation, etc.
You will need to order official school transcripts for this program, which will cost about $4 to $6. It takes a few weeks to have them delivered, unless to pay extra for rush delivery, so if you are planning on applying, order your transcripts soon. The deadline to submit applications is February 15, 2016.
WRCCDC – http://www.wrccdc.org/
On January 30, we competed in the WRCCDC 2016 Qualifier. After a 6 hour long battle against 14 other colleges, we finished in 3rd place. The Toro Cyber Defence Team is going to the regional game in Pomona on March 18 & 19. We will be spending the next month and a half preparing for the regional game.
As always, if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions do not hesitate to reach out to us through email or in person. Our doors are always open to those who wish to learn or become more involved.
