Join us at Stanford for an interdisciplinary summer research experience program in the cognitive sciences!
At the Center for the Study of Language and Information, interns will work closely with a faculty, postdoc, or grad student mentor on an original cognitive science research project. They will gain experience developing the project, collecting data, and analyzing the results. In addition to their individual projects, interns will attend weekly mentorship meetings and seminars with such topics as reading a scientific paper, introduction to data analysis, statistics and visualization, and presentation skills. The program will culminate with each intern presenting their work to an interdisciplinary audience. Accepted students will receive a stipend of $5,000 sufficient to cover travel, room, and board.
The Institute of Collaborative Biotechnologies at UC Santa Barbara is offering a 10-week paid Summer Applied Biotechnology Research Experience (SABRE) from June 19 – August 25, 2017. Students from all science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines are encouraged to apply. This program is a great opportunity for students who want to visit another university, conduct research in a state-of-the-art laboratory, and participate in career-development activities!

Open Mainframe Project is accepting eight student interns during the summer of 2017 to work in the Open Mainframe Project development community. Each intern will work closely with a mentor for the duration of his/her internship. For a list of suggested intern development projects, please see our Project Ideas Page. Internship development projects do not need to be limited to ideas on this wiki page. If you have a great idea for a development activity for Open Mainframe Project, you can submit the idea as part of your application and, if chosen, the Open Mainframe Project Internship Administrator will find a suitable mentor for you.
Each intern will work remotely from his/her location of choice. There is no physical work facility provided or required.
The Open Mainframe Project will also give the ability for each intern successfully completing the program to present their project at an industry conference. The Open Mainframe Project will provide a stipend for travel for each student. To help support the student for presenting, the project will provide professional resources and training to help build their presentation skills.
One of our 2016 interns, Matthew Franklin describes his participation: “My project was to work on porting and adding on to the Linux system monitoring tool called “htop”. It was a great experience to work with my mentor, Mr. Nathan Roberts on this project and I enjoyed it very much. The SHARE conference was also a one of a kind experience for me. It was very interesting to hear the various experts of the mainframe field talk about new developments in the platform. It was quite empowering for me to see someone my age take on a project so immense. The whole internship inspires me to keep working hard at these projects and to undertake more projects to further my skills.”
Internship Program is new for current students; and replaces the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) and the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP). The Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, including vocational and technical schools, high school, and undergraduate to graduate college and university levels, with opportunities to work in federal agencies; explore federal careers while still in school; while getting paid for the work performed. Students who successfully complete the program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent job in the federal civil service. For successful interns to be converted into the federal civil service they have to complete 640 hours on the job. Interns demonstrating exceptional performance or academic excellence can receive up to 320 credit hours under the program toward the 640-hour requirement. Interns cannot be converted to the Recent Graduates Program.
This opportunity is open to U.S. Citizens who are Students enrolled on at least a half-time basis, or accepted for enrollment, and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution; have at least a cumulative (overall) 2.0 grade point average or higher on a 4.0 scale; remain in good academic standing; and be at least 16 years of age.
Opportunity for undergraduates with majors in a STEM fields to perform research under a UCR faculty member. Successful careers in STEM depend on having the skills to understand, analyze and extract information from large amounts of data. The University of California, Riverside and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory have developed the FIELDS program to train the next generation of scientists and engineers in large-scale data analysis and visualization. These opportunities are available for US citizen undergraduates in majors related to NASA, particularly for those who are underrepresented minorities.
U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
2017 HS-STEM Summer Internships
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate Office of University Programs sponsors a 10-week summer internship program for students majoring in homeland security related science, technology, engineering and mathematics (HS-STEM) disciplines. The program provides students with quality research experiences at federal research facilities located across the country and allows students the opportunity to establish connections with DHS professionals. It is open to undergraduate and graduate students in a broad spectrum of HS-STEM disciplines and DHS mission-relevant Research Areas.
Undergraduate students receive a $6,000 stipend plus travel expenses.
Graduate students receive a $7,000 stipend plus travel expenses.

The Computer Science Department at CSU Dominguez Hills invites applications for one (1) position of tenure-track Assistant Professor. The department seeks outstanding, innovative, and visionary individuals who are committed to promoting and fostering excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. The position is available beginning August 2017.
The responsibilities of the tenure-track position include teaching, research, and service. Teaching duties may consist of day, evening, and weekend hours. Additional responsibilities include research and service consistent with the mission of the University, the College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences, and the Department of Computer Science. Published research in support of this goal is expected and is a requirement for tenure and promotion.
