We
have inherited this "most awesome manufacturing machine the world had
ever seen" that is called modern Western capitalism. Many other nations
were not that lucky. I (M.S.) cannot tell you how much the impoverished
people in Easter Europe under the Soviet domination were craving for
something of that sort. But they were not given any chance of that.
The socio-economic system that we have in the U.S. is a subject of envy
of many nations. We must not take it for granted. We must maintain it
and defend it. We must not let it deteriorate. We must guard it from
all kinds of pathologies, including parasitism, monopolies, market control, and such. And we must not let the "anti-capitalists" replace it with their socialistic utopia that never worked.
Capitalism works, but only if we are united in our efforts to keep it
the way it was supposed to be. This is why it is so important to be
ethical and fend-off opportunistic tendencies in our society. Because, according to Edmund Burke, "the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."
